River Doon and Woodland

Doonbank Bothy sits within the Doonbank Cottage's woodland garden. Guests have their own private garden to the rear of the bothy and full access to the cottage's 4.5 acre private woodland garden and river. There is also an adjoining public woodland (about 6 acres) which you can easily access via a couple of gates from our woodland garden

Across the river from the cottage, and within a 10 minute walk is the Cambusdoon Estate, which is a public woodland park and walk - about 10 acres - so plenty of walking on your doorstep!

Amongst the oaks, birch, beech, native Scotch pines, holly, cherry, apple, plum and pear trees, the woods are abound in foxgloves, honeysuckle and roses in the summer, holly and ivy in the winter, and in the spring the forest floor is covered with bluebells and wild garlic.

Doonbank Cottage's eastern boundary is the River Doon, which stretches for approximately half a mile. It is one of Scotland's most famous salmon rivers, and on its banks Robert Burns composed many of his most famous poems, including 'Ye Banks and Braes of Bonnie Doon'.

If you are an artist or photographer, this is a wonderful location as the colours, textures and lighting conditions make it a fabulous challenge.
